Being Separated From the Army is as Easy as Stopping a Rape
I think that it goes without saying that if you rape anyone, a child, a man, a woman, anyone at all, you deserve to have your face caved in. I also believe that it goes without saying that when Sgt. 1st Class Charles Martland (along with another soldier) beat an Afghan police commander in his AO because of “[the]’brutal’ sexual abuse of a village boy” he was totally justified.
The military doesn’t see it that way however- this month Martland will likely be discharged from the military due to the military downsizing, which he is now a target for because of his being disciplined.
According to a letter sent to the Pentagon by Congressman Duncan Hunter, General Christopher Haas signed a General Officer Memorandum of Reprimand claiming that Martland’s crime was an “intentional assault of a local Afghan man, ALP Commander Abdul Rahman, at VSP Larkhabi”, the General goes on to say that Martland’s actions “demonstrate a flagrant departure from the integrity, professionalism, and even-tempered leadership expected of all soldiers.”
Many of the things I’ve read online also say that this instance highlights the tensions between those of different cultures who don’t understand each other’s customs.
I’m calling bullshit on that one.
Handing out a beat down to some fucking asshole who’s raping a child isn’t being “intolerant of foreign customs”- I’ve spoken to an Afghan exchange student at my school and they actually laughed at me when I asked if it was customary for men to rape young boys. What is common is for men in positions of power to rape young boys.
Furthermore, Colonel Steve Johnson claims, “Afghan local police are straddling the fence between joining insurgents or backing the official government.
For what it’s worth, if these child-raping cowards (obviously not all are rapists) join insurgent forces we at least have grounds to vaporize them via air strike- then all we’ll have to worry about is Washington lawyers complaining about violating the ROE.
So now, we’ve got a Sgt. 1st Class, who’s not only highly decorated but also a Green Beret facing separation for sticking up for the little guy and who isn’t as easily replaceable as say, you’re average infantry private. Not only is kicking Martland out morally irresponsible, it’s fiscally irresponsible to toss to the curb someone we’ve spent so much money on. Although, considering the bright minds in Washington have spent $40 million on a gas station in Afghanistan that should have cost $500,000 I’m guessing they don’t care about fiscal responsibility.
Seriously though, what sort of fucked-up ass-backwards world do we currently live in where it’s seen as “intolerant to Middle Eastern cultures” to stop some fuck from literally chaining a boy down and raping him (Rahman is also accused of beating the boy’s mother).
I think it’s safe to say that most of us agree that Martland only did two things wrong; he didn’t just shoot this idiot in the face, and he got caught.
Keep on keepin’ on SFC. Martland.
